Editorial Policy
This page explains how The Hatton Garden Guide works: how we make money, how we review jewellers, and how we handle the relationship between editorial content and commercial partnerships. If something on this site ever feels unclear, this is where we account for it.
What this site is
The Hatton Garden Guide is an independent editorial resource for people buying engagement rings, diamonds, and jewellery in London's Hatton Garden. We publish guides, jeweller reviews, price information, and interactive tools designed to help you make informed decisions before you spend your money.
We are not a jeweller. We do not sell rings, diamonds, or any jewellery. We do not broker transactions or take a percentage of any sale. Our role is to give you the information and tools you need so that when you do buy, you know what you're paying for.
How we make money
This site generates revenue through lead generation. Here is exactly how that works:
- You use one of our tools — the ring builder, budget calculator, or price checker — and choose to submit your contact details.
- We share your enquiry (your name, email, and the ring or diamond preferences you selected) with a small number of participating Hatton Garden jewellers — a maximum of three.
- Those jewellers pay us a fee for each qualified lead they receive.
Our editorial content — every guide, review, price comparison, and article on this site — is free and ungated. You never need to hand over your email to read anything. Lead capture only happens inside our interactive tools, and only when you actively choose to submit your details.
Commercial relationships
Some jewellers listed on this site are commercial partners. They participate in our lead generation programme, which means they receive enquiries from users who submit their details through our tools. Commercial partners may receive leads before non-partners.
We want to be direct about what this does and does not mean:
- Commercial partnerships affect which jewellers receive leads from our tools.
- Commercial partnerships do not influence our editorial content, reviews, or recommendations. A paying partner does not get a better review. A non-paying jeweller does not get excluded from our guides.
- Every jeweller review on this site is based on the same assessment criteria, applied consistently, regardless of whether the jeweller pays us.
How we review jewellers
We visit jewellers in person. For online-first jewellers, we go through their full digital experience: website, ring builder, booking process, and — where possible — an in-person appointment at their showroom.
Every review assesses the same criteria:
- Product range and selection
- Pricing transparency — are prices shown upfront or hidden until you ask?
- Staff knowledge and willingness to answer questions
- Pressure tactics — did we feel pushed to buy or put down a deposit?
- Certification standards — do they show GIA or IGI certificates as standard?
- Booking and consultation process
- Aftercare — warranty, resizing, cleaning, and returns policy
Reviews are dated and represent our experience at the time of the visit. Things change — staff turnover, new policies, price adjustments. We revisit and update reviews periodically, and we always show the date of last review.
We welcome corrections. If you are a jeweller and believe we have stated something factually incorrect about your business, contact us at editorial@hatton-garden-jewellers.com and we will review it. We correct factual errors. We do not change opinions.
Price information
Price ranges shown in our tools and guides are estimates based on publicly available market data. They represent typical Hatton Garden pricing at the time of publication.
Actual prices vary by jeweller, stone availability, and market conditions. Diamond and precious metal prices fluctuate, and individual jewellers set their own margins. Our price tools are for guidance only — they are not quotes, and they are not offers to sell at any particular price.
We show prices because we believe you should have a realistic idea of what things cost before you walk into a shop. But always confirm pricing directly with the jeweller before making a purchase decision.
How we handle conflicts of interest
We take money from some of the jewellers we write about. That is a conflict of interest, and we think you should know exactly how we manage it:
- If a commercial partner receives a negative review based on our visit experience, we publish it. Paying us does not buy a good review.
- We do not accept payment for positive reviews, favourable placement in editorial content, or removal of negative information.
- Editorial decisions — which jewellers we recommend, what we say about them, and how we rank them — are made independently of commercial relationships.
If you believe any content on this site is inaccurate, misleading, or unfairly influenced by a commercial relationship, contact us at editorial@hatton-garden-jewellers.com. We take this seriously.
Your data
When you use our lead generation tools and choose to submit your details, your contact information and preferences are shared with participating jewellers — a maximum of three. You will always be told before your data is shared, and you will always have the choice not to submit.
We do not sell your data to anyone outside of this process. We do not share your browsing behaviour, reading history, or any data collected through analytics with jewellers or any third party.
Full details on how we collect, store, and protect your personal data are in our Privacy Policy.
