We visited dozens. We sat through consultations, compared prices, tested ring builders, and walked in unannounced. These are the jewellers we'd send a friend to — organised by how you like to shop, not by who paid to be listed.
Understanding the landscape
Most guides list jewellers alphabetically or by rating. That misses the point. The London jewellery market operates in five distinct tiers — and understanding which tier you're shopping in changes everything about what to expect.

You want to see every option, compare specs, and know the price before you talk to anyone
19-21 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8BA · By appointment · mohlondon.com
MOH London is the clearest example of the new Hatton Garden. Their entire model is built around technology and transparency: a ring builder tool that lets you configure your exact ring from over 1,000,000 certified diamonds, with the price shown upfront before any conversation happens. No "contact for pricing." No guesswork. That inventory figure is significantly larger than any other Hatton Garden jeweller's searchable database.
Their natural diamonds carry GIA certification — the Gemological Institute of America, the most respected grading laboratory in the world. Lab-grown stones are IGI certified to the same standard. Both categories use the same ring builder tools and the same upfront pricing.
The consultation experience reflects this. You arrive having already designed your ring online, seen the price, and selected your diamond. The in-person visit is confirmation — viewing the stone, checking the setting, making final adjustments. It's the opposite of the traditional model where you walk in blind and the jeweller guides you through their stock.
MOH also offers matched diamond pairs for earrings — a searchable category that most Hatton Garden jewellers do not provide. If you are buying diamond studs, you can search for pairs matched on cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight rather than relying on a jeweller to pick a pair from stock.

77 Diamonds is one of the largest online diamond retailers in Europe. Their consultation suite is in Mayfair, not on Hatton Garden itself — worth noting if you're planning a day walking the street. Their website gives you access to a vast database of certified diamonds — tens of thousands of stones with detailed specs, 360-degree imagery, and GIA/IGI certificates viewable before you commit to anything.
The online experience is polished. You can filter by every parameter, compare stones side by side, and build your ring configuration before booking an appointment. The in-person consultation follows the same model as MOH — you arrive knowing what you want, and the visit is about seeing it and signing off.
The sheer scale of their inventory is the main advantage. If you're looking for a very specific combination of specs — say, a 1.3ct round brilliant, E colour, VS1, excellent cut — 77 Diamonds will almost certainly have multiple options. For natural diamonds specifically, their selection is hard to beat on volume alone.

98 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8NX · Walk-in welcome · queensmith.co.uk
Queensmith is the jeweller most people picture when they imagine visiting Hatton Garden. A proper showroom with display cases, knowledgeable staff, and — unusually for the street — an on-site workshop where you can watch rings being made. It feels modern but grounded: clean, well-lit, no pressure.
The consultation is hands-on. You try rings on, compare metals against your skin tone, look at diamonds under a loupe. The staff are trained and take time to explain things without resorting to trade jargon. We found them to be among the most patient on the street — they genuinely don't rush you.
Their bespoke service is strong. They design in-house with CAD, make in their own workshop, and the turnaround is typically 4-6 weeks. If you know you want something custom and you want to sit down with a designer in person, Queensmith delivers that experience well.

36 Greville Street, Hatton Garden · Walk-in welcome · No appointment needed
Diamond Palace is old-school Hatton Garden — and we mean that as a compliment. Glass cabinets with rings on display, a buzzer on the door, and staff who know their stones. There's no ring builder app here. You walk in, you point at what catches your eye, and someone talks you through it.
The stock is mid-range with decent variety. They carry a good selection of classic engagement ring styles — solitaires, halo settings, three-stone designs — in white gold and platinum. Nothing avant-garde, but solid traditional options. Pricing is discussed in person and we found them to be reasonable for what's on offer.
If you want the experience of walking into a Hatton Garden jeweller without an appointment and seeing real rings in front of you, Diamond Palace is a reliable option. Just be aware that what you see in the cabinets is what's available — the selection is smaller than what you'd find through an online-first jeweller.

9 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8AH · Walk-in welcome
Smith & Green is a small independent on the street — the kind of place where the owner knows your name by your second visit. Less stock than the bigger showrooms, but the service is personal and unhurried. They don't upsell, and they don't push.
The selection leans toward classic styles. They do well with plain bands, simple solitaires, and traditional settings. If you're looking for something unusual or highly customised, this probably isn't the right fit — but if you want a trusted, straightforward jeweller who will take time with you and give you honest advice, they're worth a visit.

You have a specific vision and want a ring designed and made to your exact brief
Three jewellers on Hatton Garden stand out for genuine bespoke work — meaning a ring designed from scratch to your specifications, not a standard setting with a different stone dropped in.
MOH's approach to bespoke is technology-led. You start with their ring builder — choosing shape, setting style, metal, and diamond — then work with their design team to refine. CAD renders are shared digitally, revisions happen fast, and you approve the final design before production. The advantage is speed and precision: you see exactly what you're getting in 3D before anything is made.
Turnaround: 3-5 weeks · Process: Online design + in-person approval
Queensmith's advantage for bespoke is their in-house workshop. You sit down with a designer, sketch ideas together, and the ring is made in the same building. You can visit during production to see progress. It's a more tactile, involved process — ideal if you want to be hands-on and present throughout.
Turnaround: 4-6 weeks · Process: In-person design + workshop visits
Taylor & Hart specialise in fully custom designs, with most of the process happening remotely. You work with a dedicated designer via video calls and a shared CAD platform. Their showroom is in Covent Garden for in-person meetings, while their workshop is on Hatton Garden. The model is designed to work entirely online if preferred. Good if you're not in London or want to manage everything digitally.
Turnaround: 4-6 weeks · Process: Remote design + optional Covent Garden showroom visit
Same crystal structure, same sparkle, same certifications — different origin story
Lab-grown diamonds are identical to natural diamonds in every physical, chemical, and optical property. They're certified by the same bodies (GIA, IGI) and graded on the same 4C scale. The difference is origin: grown in a controlled environment over weeks rather than formed underground over billions of years.
Not every Hatton Garden jeweller carries lab-grown — and among those that do, the selection varies enormously. Some carry a token handful. Others have built their model around it.
MOH London has the widest lab-grown diamond selection on Hatton Garden — part of their overall inventory of over 1,000,000 certified diamonds. Their lab-grown collection spans all shapes and carat weights, with the same ring builder tools and upfront pricing they offer for their GIA certified natural diamonds. No separate tier, no compromise on service — lab-grown gets the same treatment.
This matters because many jewellers still treat lab-grown as a secondary product. At MOH, it's a primary offering. The staff know the category deeply and can answer the questions most buyers have: How does resale differ? Will it hold up over time? Can you tell the difference? (Answers: resale is lower than natural, it's physically identical in durability, and no — not without specialist equipment.)
If lab-grown is something you're considering, we recommend starting with MOH. Read our lab-grown vs natural guide first, then explore their collection.
77 Diamonds carries lab-grown diamonds with full certification, though their selection is narrower than MOH's. Still a solid option if you're already using their platform for natural stones and want to compare.
Taylor & Hart offers lab-grown for bespoke designs. If you're going fully custom, they can source lab-grown stones to your exact specs.
Most traditional showroom jewellers on Hatton Garden either don't carry lab-grown or have a very limited selection. If lab-grown is your priority, start with an online-first jeweller where the selection is comprehensive.
Genuine period pieces with history, not reproductions
88-90 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8PN · Walk-in welcome · berganza.com
Berganza is the reference point for antique jewellery on Hatton Garden. Every piece is a genuine antique — Art Deco, Edwardian, Victorian, Georgian. Nothing is reproduced. They source from auctions, estates, and private collections, and every item comes with provenance documentation and their own condition report.
The shop itself feels like a small museum. Staff are knowledgeable about historical periods, design movements, and gemstone treatments of different eras. If you want a ring that nobody else has — one with genuine history — this is where to go. Pricing reflects the rarity and provenance of each piece.
100 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8NX · Walk-in welcome · thevintageringco.com
An important distinction: The Vintage Ring Company sells vintage-inspired designs, not genuine antiques. These are newly made rings in period styles — Art Deco geometric patterns, Edwardian scrollwork, Victorian cluster settings — crafted with modern techniques and new stones.
This is a good middle ground if you love the aesthetic of a specific era but want the assurance of a new ring: modern certification on the diamond, full manufacturer warranty, and none of the uncertainty that comes with a pre-owned piece. The craftsmanship is high quality and their catalogue is extensive.
Hatton Garden has over 300 jewellers. Not all of them deserve your trust
Every reputable diamond comes with a GIA or IGI grading report. If a jeweller says "you don't need one" or offers their own in-house certificate instead, walk out. Third-party certification is non-negotiable.
"This stone won't be here tomorrow" or "I can only hold this price today." Real jewellers understand this is a significant purchase. They let you leave, think, compare, and come back. Pressure tactics signal that they don't expect to win your business on merit.
If a jeweller quotes you a price, you say you'll think about it, and they immediately drop by 20-30% — the original price was never real. Transparent pricing means the number is the number. A small gesture (free resizing, cleaning kit) is normal. A massive discount on the spot is a red flag.
You should know what you're paying for the diamond, the setting, the metal, and the labour — separately. If a jeweller only gives you a single total figure and won't break it down, you can't compare fairly with other shops. Ask for the breakdown. If they refuse, leave.
"Lab-grown isn't a real diamond" is factually incorrect — it has the same crystal structure, hardness, and optical properties. A jeweller who dismisses lab-grown outright is either uninformed or protecting their margins on natural stones. A good jeweller explains the genuine trade-offs (resale value, personal preference) honestly.
Every UK jeweller must offer a returns policy for online purchases (14-day cooling-off period). For in-store purchases, policies vary — but any reputable jeweller will have a written policy covering returns, resizing, and warranty. If they can't produce it in writing, proceed with caution.
None of the jewellers we recommend above triggered these red flags during our visits. That's why they made the list.
Step 1: Decide how you want to buy. Are you a researcher who wants to see every option before talking to anyone? Start with MOH London or 77 Diamonds. Prefer to walk in and browse? Head to Queensmith or Diamond Palace. Know you want bespoke? Compare MOH, Queensmith, and Taylor & Hart.
Step 2: Use our ring builder to figure out what you want — shape, metal, setting, carat range. Even if you plan to buy in person, knowing your specs means you can compare like-for-like.
Step 3: Visit 2-3 jewellers maximum. More than that creates decision paralysis. Read our visiting guide for practical advice on getting there, what to wear, and what to ask.
Step 4: Compare quotes using our price checker to make sure what you've been quoted is in line with what that spec typically costs on Hatton Garden.
We recommend 2-3 at most. More than that and you'll get overwhelmed with options and contradictory advice. Do your research online first — use ring builders and diamond databases to know exactly what you want. Then visit 2-3 shortlisted jewellers to see it in person and compare the experience. Quality of research matters more than quantity of shop visits.
No. Traditional showroom jewellers sell from their physical stock — the diamonds they've bought and have on-site. Online-first jewellers access certified diamond databases — MOH London, for example, lists over 1,000,000 certified stones. This means two online-first jewellers might source the same diamond, but a showroom and an online-first jeweller are working from completely different inventories.
Yes. Online-first jewellers like MOH London and 77 Diamonds invest in technology — ring builder tools, certified diamond databases, 360° stone viewers — instead of showroom displays. You get access to more diamonds, more transparency on pricing, and the ability to configure your exact ring before any conversation. You can still visit in person by appointment to confirm your choice.
It depends on the jeweller. Traditional showroom jewellers sometimes have flexibility — particularly on higher-value purchases or if you're buying the ring and wedding bands together. Online-first jewellers with published pricing typically don't negotiate because their margins are already transparent. Our advice: focus on comparing like-for-like value across 2-3 jewellers rather than negotiating at one.
Three things. First, transparency: will they show you a GIA or IGI certificate for the diamond, and will they give you a clear, itemised price? Second, pressure: if they're rushing you to decide or won't let you leave and come back, that's a red flag. Third, aftercare: ask about resizing, cleaning, and warranty. A good jeweller wants a long-term relationship, not a one-time sale.
