Men’s wedding rings
A plain 18ct gold men’s wedding ring typically costs about £1,700 in the UK, and platinum about the same.

Wedding rings / Women’s wedding rings
A women’s wedding band usually has two jobs: to look right on its own, and to sit neatly against an engagement ring. Here’s what bands really cost, plain and diamond-set, and how to get the fit right.
In short: A plain 18ct gold women’s wedding band typically costs about £775 in the UK, and a diamond-set band about £1,000. Most are 2–3mm wide. If your engagement ring sits low or has a halo, you may need a curved or shaped band to sit flush.

| Band | Listings | Typical | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18ct gold, plain | 21 | £775 | £224–£1,650 |
| Diamond-set (half eternity, pavé, channel) | 21 | £995 | £330–£6,500 |
Diamond-set bands range widely: 9ct gold bands with tiny diamonds start around £330, while designer bands from De Beers, Boodles and Graff run from £1,600 to £6,500. The diamonds’ total weight and quality, not the brand, should drive the price.

A 2.5–3mm 18ct gold women’s band in sizes L to N weighs about 3.5g (the middle of 9 weights published by UK jewellers). At today's price, the gold in it is worth about £267, roughly 34% of a typical £775 price. The rest is making, finishing, hallmarking, VAT and margin. A heavier band in the same style costs more for exactly this reason, and when the metal price moves, band prices follow.

Width and shape
Women’s bands are usually 1.5–4mm wide, and 2–3mm was the most common in the listings we checked. Match the band’s width to the engagement ring’s band so the two look like a pair.
Court
Domed outside and curved inside, so it slides over the knuckle easily. The most comfortable.
Flat court
Flat outside, curved inside. The modern look of a flat band with the comfort of a court.
D-shape
Domed outside, flat inside. The traditional British wedding band shape.
Flat
Flat inside and out, with square edges. Modern and crisp, but the least comfortable to wear.
Before you buy
Many engagement rings sit low or have a halo, so a straight band leaves a gap. Curved, wishbone or shaped bands follow the engagement ring’s outline. Always take your engagement ring when you choose a band.
Wear the same metal as your engagement ring. A platinum ring worn against a softer gold band will slowly wear the gold down over the years.
A plain band is tougher and easy to resize. Diamond-set bands add sparkle but are harder to resize; full eternity bands often can’t be resized at all, so half eternity is the more practical choice.
A plain 18ct gold men’s wedding ring typically costs about £1,700 in the UK, and platinum about the same.
A matching pair of plain 18ct gold bands, a women’s 2–3mm and a men’s 4–6mm, typically costs about £2,500 bought separately in the UK (about £775 + £1,700).
Matching your band to your engagement ring, sizing and when to order
In UK listings we checked in October 2026, a plain 18ct gold women’s band typically cost about £775 (range £224–£1,650) and a diamond-set band about £995 (range £330–£6,500).
Yes, if you want more sparkle and accept the trade-offs: diamond-set bands are harder to resize, and the small stones need checking every year or so. A half eternity band, with diamonds across the top only, is the most practical option.
A band shaped to curve around your engagement ring’s centre stone, so the two sit flush with no gap. They’re common with halo and low-set engagement rings.
