Graff, Cartier & Harry Winston: what are you actually paying for?

“The name and the rarity are the point.”

The high jewellery houses sit at the top of London’s jewellery market. Exceptional stones, a heritage name, and a Bond Street address. For some buyers, that name is the point.

This page is here so you know what that premium buys. A GIA-graded diamond is the same grade wherever it’s sold. What changes at this tier is how much of the price goes to the name, the design house, and the experience around the ring.

What you're paying for

The name and the rarity. Exceptional stones, a signature house design, heritage, and exclusivity, with a large share of the price going to the brand.

Right for you if

You want the name on the box as much as the ring itself, and the premium is part of what makes it meaningful to you.

What to expect

How buying works at this tier

  1. Flagship boutiques, not Hatton Garden

These houses trade from Bond Street and Mayfair. You won’t find them on Hatton Garden. Expect a boutique appointment rather than a walk-in browse.

  2. The house design comes first

You choose from the house’s own collections. Each has a signature setting style, and the centre stone is selected to suit it.

  3. Prices are often published, at least as a starting point

Graff’s UK site lists engagement rings from about £3,700 to £110,000 (September 2026). Many pieces above that are price on request.

The trade-offs

  • You pay a significant premium for the name compared with a like-for-like certified stone on Hatton Garden.
  • Less flexibility. You’re choosing within the house’s designs, not designing from scratch.
  • Resale value follows the diamond, not the box. A certified stone is valued on its grade.

The bigger picture

Compare the five tiers

A higher tier doesn't mean a better diamond. It means more of your money goes to the name and the experience around the ring.

Common Questions

How much does a Graff engagement ring cost?+

Graff’s UK website lists engagement rings from about £3,700 to £110,000 (September 2026), with larger stones price on request. Most of the spread is the centre diamond: its carat, colour, and clarity.

Is a Graff diamond better than a Hatton Garden diamond of the same grade?+

Grade for grade, no. A certified 1ct G VS1 is the same grade wherever it’s sold. What you pay extra for at Graff is the name, the house design, and the experience. If those matter to you, that’s a fair reason to buy. If they don’t, the same money goes further on Hatton Garden.

Can I buy Graff or Cartier on Hatton Garden?+

No. The high jewellery houses trade from Bond Street and Mayfair. Hatton Garden is home to bespoke workshops, diamond specialists, and independent jewellers. Bond Street is four stops from Chancery Lane on the Central line if you want to compare both.
